Abstracts:

The article is devoted to the methodology of working with authentic professionally oriented video materials in teaching foreign medical students the language of their major. The introduction highlights the history of the issue, analyzes the advantages (immersion in a professional context, development of auditory and communication skills) and disadvantages (linguistic and cognitive difficulties) of using authentic video materials. The relevance of the problem, which is due to the increasing need to expand the tools for the development of professional communication skills of international students, is determined. The research material was the textbook “Technology of Formation of Professional Communicative Competence in Russian as a Foreign Language classes” by Yu. A. Nepokina, T. V. Samorodova. The study employed the method of analysis, classification, systematization and differentiated selection of the material. The results of the study and discussion outline criteria for selecting materials based on the students' language proficiency and professional needs. A detailed methodology for creating assignments for three stages of working with video material (pre-demonstration, demonstration, and post-demonstration) is presented. Using the topic “At the Doctor’s Office” as an example, a set of assignments aimed at developing and enhancing the professional communication skills of international medical students is presented. The authors highlight the advantages of the method and the challenges encountered by both students and instructors (based on the pilot study results), and outline ways to overcome them.
