Abstracts:
The study relevance is due to global educational transformations, the need to prepare teachers for the digital economy, and the special interest in educational reforms in BRICS countries. The purpose of the study is to characterize the ways of reforming teacher education through the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and the implementation of the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST). The study is based on official government documents, analytical reports, scientific publications by Indian and Russian researchers, data from digital educational platforms (DIKSHA, NISHTHA, SWAYAM). The methodological basis includes comparative pedagogical analysis and a systematic approach to studying the regulatory framework. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of teacher education reform in India initiated by the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), the role and structure of National Professional Standard. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of teacher education reform in India, initiated by the NEP, the role and structure of the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) as a key tool for transformation. The study results in a detailed structuring the architecture of the Indian teacher education system, covering all levels from pre-primary to postgraduate. It has been established that the NPST, introducing a four-level career model (from novice teacher to teacher-leader), is a system-forming element standardizing competencies and synchronizing teacher training with modern schools’ challenges. The key challenge of the reform is revealed – the need to adapt the standards to India’s unique sociocultural diversity. It is concluded that the success of the transformation depends on bridging the gap between the ambitious political goals of the NEP 2020 and the actual educational practices in the regions.
