This article analyzes the sociocultural adaptation of international students at Russian universities, a topic relevant to the internationalization of education and the increasing influx of international students. The author examines the adaptation challenges of foreign citizens studying in higher education programs in the Russian Federation, encompassing linguistic, academic, social, and psychological challenges that impact student success and well-being. The purpose of this study is to identify the role of university educational efforts in organizing the sociocultural adaptation of international students and their successful integration into the general student community. The study draws on the experience and practice of educational work at I. Ulyanov Chuvash State University, using a systemic, comparative analysis and generalization.

The study identifies key areas of the university’s educational work that have proven to be the most effective and easiest to implement, and explicates the leading role of educational work in fostering intercultural tolerance and creating a supportive environment. Using the example of successful programs at I. Ulyanov Chuvash State University (preparatory department, mentoring, cultural events, psychological support), it concludes that effective sociocultural adaptation requires systemic pedagogical strategies and active educational work, facilitating the successful integration of international students into the Russian educational system.
