Abstracts:

For several decades, the concepts of faculty professional identity and faculty professional agency have been on researchers’ agenda, however, there are no any unanimous conclusions regarding their nexus. The latter is of particular relevance now, when higher education system is looking for anthropocentric ways of raising faculty’s efficacy, with both professional agency and identity contributing to teachers’ professional development. Analysis of the relevant literature describing the above-mentioned concepts and also the systemic approach demonstrated a variety of perspectives related to this issue, with identity of professionals being the source of their agency, the agency contributing to identity and even two concepts being integrated into a single one. We came to the conclusion on faculty professional agency being an important prerequisite of professional identity. Possessing developed agency can boost university teachers’ identity, providing full-scale engagement in their vocational activity and the efficacy of their performance results.

The results obtained can be used for post-graduate studies as well as for devising faculty’s professional advancement programs.
