Abstracts:

The article examines the problem of teaching foreign language writing: writing an essay in English with the help of written mentors based on Artificial Intelligence. The article reveals the main theoretical aspects of the problem, describes the main types of exercises for teaching writing.

The authors of the article cite statistical data from their survey of English language teachers, which determine the current state of the problem of teaching foreign languages using AI. The authors analyzed the capabilities, advantages and disadvantages of existing artificial intelligence-based writing mentors (Kampus AI, WordyBot, Character AI, ChatGPT, DeepSeek) and presented a methodology for their use in teaching writing.

The article presents the results of testing the developed set of exercises for teaching essay writing in English using Artificial Intelligence technologies for high school children, and concludes that there are advantages of teaching writing using virtual mentors if certain pedagogical conditions are met. The authors substantiate the advantages of learning to write an English-language essay using AI: personalized and fast feedback, developing students’ independence and reducing students’ anxiety.
