Abstracts:

The article discusses the findings of research conducted by domestic scientists on the nature of concepts related to elite, elitism, elitist, and elite. Despite the intricacy and varied applications of these terms, scientists have substantiated and advocated for elitology as an independent, sophisticated scientific discipline. The researchers have developed a comprehensive scientific apparatus; elucidated the philosophical and historical underpinnings of the main categories; and compiled an encyclopedic dictionary for general dissemination; published the monographs that explore diverse aspects of human uniqueness and the essence of the phenomenon of elite; considered the formation of elite consciousness and the elite orientation of personality have been thoroughly examined, among numerous other contributions.

The paper elucidates the essence of elitism from the perspective of the development of elite personality. The paper proposes a novel approach to defining the concepts of elitist and elite, emphasizing the development of elitist consciousness as a critical factor in this process. It adopts an elitist orientation of personality as a criterion and a starting point for assessing the development of elitist consciousness. This methodological approach facilitates a more precise delineation of the similarities and differences between elitism and the elite, thereby expanding the analytical scope of studies on elitization as a need, goal, condition, process, and result.

The article posits that a crucial element in comprehending the nature of the elite is the functional role of other individuals, who are aptly designated as representatives of the masses. It is to the masses that elites are indebted for their recognition, which is predominantly influenced by the exceptional capabilities of the latter. The paper underscores the futility of contemplating the phenomenon of the elite without acknowledging the phenomenon of masses. In this regard, the conclusion about the essential difference between the concepts of elitist and elite is justified. A variant of considering the elitist as an intermediate state of elitism development with elite orientation is proposed.

The paper’s assumptions and approaches to defining the essence of elite and mass enable an examination of the issue of elite schools from the perspective of mass education. This examination results in the proposal of a thesis on the necessity of cultivating elite-oriented personalities as a promising direction for the education system’s renewal, both in general and in mass schools.
