| Abstracts: | The article explores Turgenev’s tradition in the depiction of nature and man in the prose by Yu. P. Kazakov. The relevance of this work is determined by an appeal to an insufficiently studied aspect of Turgenev’s literary tradition, heroes with “inner integrity” in the poetics of Yu. P. Kazakov’s short stories. Moreover, the study of the Turgenev tradition in the legacy of 20th-century writers is a focus of interest in contemporary comparative-historical literary studies.
The material for the study was the stories of Yu. P. Kazakov (“Ugly”, “Arcturus the Hound Dog”, “In the Fog”, “There Runs the Dog!”, “Autumn in the Oak Forests”, “Crying and Crying”, “Candle”. The research employed a comparative and contrasting method, as well as a holistic analysis of the literary work.
It is stressed that it is the philosophical reflection on nature that brings the writers together. I. S. Turgenev and his literary successor depict it in two images. The first is eternal, omnipotent, and indifferent to people. The second is beautiful, spiritualized, and exists in a harmonious connection with people. In Yu. P. Kazakov’s prose, characters of the second type are identified and analyzed (in accordance with the classification of M. O. Gershenzon, which was developed and considered using the example of the works of I. S. Turgenev), with their characteristic inner acceptance of nature in all its hypostases.
