PECULIARITIES OF TRANSLATION OF QUASI REALITIES AS MARKER OF LEIGH BARDUGO’S IDIOSTYLE IN FANTASY NOVELS
This article examines the problems of literary translation of the markers of Leigh Bardugo’s idiostyle in fantasy novels. The study analyses the definitions of the concept of idiostyle highlighting its main characteristics and explores the peculiarities of interpretation of this phenomenon. The markers of Leigh Bardugo’s idiostyle, including lexical-semantic, syntactic, and graphic elements were already classified by the authors. Their role in creating the unique artistic world of her fantasy novels were analyzed.
The object of this study is Leigh Bardugo’s individual style embodied in her works. The aim of this study is to identify the specific features of rendering of Leigh Bardugo’s idiostyle linguistic markers such as quasi realities in translation into Russian.
The authors also analyze the appropriate application of translation techniques used to convey linguistic markers and their ability to preserve the author’s artistic image expressed in the original. Based on a comparative analysis, the specific features of their translation in the novels of the Grishaverse series are identified. The article explains the reasons for the choice of translation techniques for certain types of vocabulary uncharacteristic of translation theory.
The work of Leigh Bardugo, known for her fantasy novels, is of significant interest for research as her idiomatic style has distinctive features expressed both linguistically and extralinguistically. Therefore, a competent study of Leigh Bardugo’s individual style as a distinct phenomenon and the unique characteristics that arise during the artistic translation of this author’s books, is essential.
