Abstracts:

The article is dedicated to the author’s neologisms in fantast literature and the analysis of their transferring in French and Spanish translations of J. K. Rowling’s works. The article examines one of the fundamental issues of modern linguistics and theory of translation – the problem of the functioning and translation of neologisms in a literary work. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of the transfer of culturally marked lexical units through different translation methods. The scientific novelty of the study consists in the fact that, for the first time, the main characteristics of the author’s neologisms interpretation in J. K. Rowling’s fantasy works are described and systematized. As a result of the research, key trends in the translation of author’s neologisms were identified and the main patterns of choosing a translation strategy were established depending on the implementation of the author’s intention. From the point of view of language, the fundamental element is the etymology of a neologism, while the pragmatic component of a lexical unit is an important extralinguistic factor. Special attention is paid to the meaning of author’s neologisms and their functioning within the context of an artistic work, which in most cases influences the choice of linguistic means in both French and Spanish translations.
