This article examines the narrative and compositional strategies of longreads about man-made disasters. Media coverage of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident is examined in the context of media representation of the past, which is associated with the riskiness of public history in the digital environment. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that the topic of man-made and natural disasters is one of the most significant for humanity, therefore, journalists' treatment of this issue online requires a comprehensive study by researchers. The study analyzed the longreads from the newspapers Kommersant, Komsomolskaya Pravda, and the Russian News Agency TASS. The research methods employed content analysis (to identify narrative construction tools) and discourse analysis of the compositional-narrative strategy, including stylistic devices and artistic and expressive means of text presentation. The study concluded that the longread format, in representing a man-made disaster, enhances the textual narrative through a well-thought-out structure, direction, and multimedia elements. The longread, as a hybrid format, combines elements of an essay, interview, investigation, and commentary. Media framing of disasters which is told through personal stories enhances the emotional impact of projects. The uniqueness of each longread is determined by its compositional and narrative strategy, which is formed using linguistic, structural, visual, and multimedia tools.
