Abstracts:

The study aims to examine the concept “cultural code” from the point of view of interdisciplinary research. A critical analysis of approaches to the definition of the cultural code is proposed and its constitutive components are determined. The paper presents a classification of cultural codes based on a linguocultural approach. The analysis is based on Algerian French-language novels.

The relevance of the work is determined by the need to deconstruct the complex process of cultural self-identification in postcolonial Algerian society. To identify the list of elements that form cultural codes in their entirety. The Algerian French-language novel of the second half of the 20th century is characterized by hybridity due to cultural and linguistic syncretism; uniqueness determined by historical facts and events; multiculturalism caused by the mixing of various ethnic communities.

The methodological framework includes a narratological and semantic analysis of the corpus of literary texts and elements that verbalize the cultural code, as well as a semiotic analysis and a cultural-historical method. It is revealed that the classification of cultural codes is open and can be supplemented, which makes it possible to consider it as a typology. The typology of cultural codes varies depending on the specifics of a particular linguistic culture. The latter is determined by the linguistic, cultural, and historical context of the region. It is proposed to introduce such a type of cultural code as “cultural and ideological”. It has been established that the cultural code has a hierarchical or binary structure. It is characterized by a tropic character, which is mainly verbalized through metaphor.
