Abstracts:

This article considers structural, functional, and semantic peculiarities of negative nonce words in secondary texts of pseudoscientific discourse (PSD). The relevance of the study stems from the importance of the research of PSD clients’ verbalized reactions expressed in the secondary texts as they demonstrate the pragmatic influence of the initial texts on the target audience. 114 secondary texts of the PSD have been taken for analysis. They were left as comments to astrological videos. The selected words reflect negative reaction to the information presented in the initial text (video). In 38% of cases stylistically neutral stems were used to produce nonce words. In 62% of cases lexical units with explicit negative connotation were taken as the source of nonce word formation. In 86% of cases nonce words make negative emotions expressed by the authors more emphatic, and in 14% of cases nonce words help to smooth the emotional reaction. All the selected words are formed by means of suffixes. Often suffixes added to the stems magnify their connotation as in many cases they express contemptuous or neglectful attitude to the subject matter. Also, the stems of slang and vulgar words can also be taken to form nonce words.
