Abstracts:
Mastering phonetic competence is a key aspect of successful communication in the study of Russian as a Foreign Language (RFL). In the context of the growing interest in the Russian language in Sri Lanka, including the studying at I. Yakovlev CHSPU, the study of the formation of phonetic competence in Sinhala students becomes particularly relevant.
The formation and improvement of phonetic skills is critical as incorrect pronunciation hinders the effective acquisition of the language and can lead to communicative failures. The conducted research aims to develop a teaching system that takes into account the influence of the native Sinhala language on the formation of phonetic skills in Russian speech among non-native students.
The study, which focused on the formation of phonetic skills in Russian speech among Sinhala speakers, was based on the analysis of classical and modern works on Russian phonetics and teaching methods, as well as textbooks and methodological developments. The study employed descriptive, comparative, and analytical methods, as well as generalization, systematization of scientific research works, and observation of typical phonetic errors among Sinhala students.
It has been revealed that the main cause of difficulties is linguistic interference, which manifests itself in typical articulation, accentuation, and intonation errors. To overcome these difficulties, a system of exercises has been developed to help overcome phonetic disorders, which is aimed at developing auditory, orthoepic, and intonation skills and improving speech abilities.
