Name of article:ANTHROPONYM AS A STRUCTURAL COMPONENT OF CHUVASH RIDDLES
Keywords:

Anthroponymic code of culture is a part of the national culture of the people. The proposed article examines functioning of anthroponyms as “cultural” units in a Chuvash riddle. The relevance of the research is due to the fact that anthroponyms (the system of human names), being signs of the “language” of culture (according to V. N. Telia), transmit cultural and historical information, through which the specifics of the national worldview is revealed. The material for the study was Chuvash riddles extracted by continuous sampling from the collections “Тупмалли юмахсем” (“Tulmalli yumakhsem”) (2015, 2016). A total of 362 riddles have been selected. The research uses methods such as descriptive, statistical, and linguistic-cultural analysis. It was revealed that anthroponyms in the Chuvash riddle are presented in the following forms: a) first name, b) first name in combination with the nickname of one of the parents (Chuv. Ясук Терентий (Yasuk Terentiy) or Миля Укахви (Milya Ukakhvi)); c) first name + patronymic (Chuv. Спиритун Элекçи (Spiritun Elekschi)). The full three-component formula “surname + first name + patronymic” has not been found. It is noted that the native Chuvash pre-Christian male and female names are used, as well as names that phonetically coincide with Russian or are modified according to Chuvash phonetics. The enigmatic text also uses names created for “game” purposes. It is concluded that the anthroponym in the enigmatic text performs a dual role: it becomes the equivalent of the object being guessed or the owner of the object encoding the guess.
