Abstracts:

Yakovlev Studies as an interdisciplinary field in pedagogy, studying a complex of problems related to the education of the Chuvash people, was formed and developed in the 20th century. The ideas and experience of the Chuvash educator are also relevant in the 21st century, during the modernization of the Russian education system at the present stage. Moreover, in the pedagogical literature, the historiographical stages in the study of the legacy of I.Ya. Yakovlev have not yet become the subject of special study. In the post-Soviet period, new layers of archival sources opened up, which had not previously been introduced into scientific circulation. This methodological situation at the present stage creates favorable conditions for an objective assessment of educational activities and the study of the great legacy of I.Ya. Yakovlev.

Based on the main periods of I.Ya. Yakovlev’s life and work, the degree of study of the problem, and the development of Yakovlev Studies, the author identifies six main historiographical stages. The chronological framework of the stages is related to both historical (anniversary) dates, as well as methodological approaches to the study of the enlightener’s work, and the level of research work. Each stage has its own characteristics, which reflect the typos of the epochs, the enthusiasm of individual researchers and government policy in the field of public education.
