Abstracts:
This paper is devoted to the magazine Atal Yurri (The Volga Song), one of the first literary and artistic publications in the Chuvash language. The relevance of the research is due to the fact that the magazine Atal Yurri (The Volga Song) has not yet been the object of in–depth research by historians of the Chuvash periodical press. During the Soviet period, the issues of the magazine were kept in a “special storage” out of the reach of the general public, including researchers; in the post-perestroika period, Chuvash literary critics and historians of the press gave a positive assessment to Atal Yurri in their articles and monographs, but they did not carry out a comprehensive analysis of the texts and did not trace the fate of the editorial board members. The research was based on the surviving issues of Atlas Yurri, the memoirs of people who directly participated in its issues, as well as other documents. There are no full-scale publications about Atlas Yurri. In this article, the main focus is on revealing the thematic areas or the main sections and headings of the magazine, the genre palette and the nature of the materials. In our opinion, it is of great interest to reveal the causes of the controversy surrounding the future of the magazine.
